Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple is a hallmark of traditional Chinese temple courtyard architecture and reflects craftsmanship popular in the late 19th century. Located on Waterloo Street, a popular place of worship for devotees of Guan Yin, the Chinese goddess of mercy. It is one of Singapore's oldest Buddhist temples, built-in 1884.
Most devotees visit the temple on the first and 15th days of the lunar calendar. However, during Chinese New Year, its festive period, the temple is kept open all night. In addition, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple was the first temple in Singapore to provide divination slips with English translations for English-educated devotees and tourists.
